This exercise practices skills that you can use to gather and organize information from the internet. We will be simulating a research project with multiple sources -- in this case, all about Athens, Ohio. You will gather what you find into a single document that prepares your material for further drafting into polished text.
Following are random observations about Athens, done by previous students. Look through them, select at least twenty that you find interesting or notable, and copy/paste them to the document you have already begun (looking-raw_yourlastname.doc). Assemble them one at a time (don't Select All and copy -- you will end up with far too much material to work with). IMPORTANT: Keep each one separate with a blank line (an Enter), and don't add a number. You can keep track of the number of entries by using Tools / Word Count / Paragraphs. You are creating blocks of information, all consistent in form. After this stage of the exercise, you will have thirty entries (your own ten, plus the twenty found below).
"Not guilty" has probably never been said by an Athens judge when involving a case with a college student.
A brick street that rumbles underneath tires and creates mini landscapes under my feet.
A decent place to sleep with decent insulation and all for a decent price is extremely hard to find in this area. Off-campus housing takes a little extra time but gives you a wider variety of choices when deciding where to live.

Although people try to tell you that every bar in Athens is unique in its own way, compared to the selection of bars in real cities, Athens bars are actually all the same.
Although the bar scene in Athens always seems to be criticized. However, it probably the main source of revenue for the city of Athens...where would it be without it?
although the university has a very good reputation, I think i’ve found it’s one major fault: there are no really good places to study on campus especially after midnight. it’s a bad thing.
Among the rolling hills and greeny façade of the woody Athens countryside there are careful windy roads upon which one can find among other antiquated mysteries, a cemetery that dates back to the civil war. Some of the tombstones are so old that they aren’t even tombstones – they’re made out of wood.
An Indian Summer breeze curling atop Bong Hill, cooling the moisturized film on my forehead, as I gaze at the sun drenched evening sky. A color fade from Sunkist orange to indigo blue where holes punched with glimmering starlight begin to speckle the darker sky.
And then there was that big, shiny, pre-assembled replica of a 60s diner passing through on a crane. It fell right into the parking lot next to Zachary’s and it looks like they’re gonna open it here!

Athens has the largest Taco Bell in the world, which makes no sense because the size of this town is hardly something to brag about. You would think that NYC or someplace like that would have the largest Taco Bell.
Athens has the most spoiled, self-centered, loud students I’ve ever met. I think the loudest ones live above my apartment, because pictures are falling off the walls from their bass.
Athens has the worst excuse of a river I have ever seen. The Hocking River. I think the Hocking Creek is more like it.

Athens, the love of my life.
Athens, where one percet of all alcohol consumed in America is done. Seriously. In order for this fact to be true, (statistically speaking) each student would have to chug a case of malted love every two days. Think about that one.
Athens’ businesses have problems. The city’s population drops dramatically for a third of the year when Ohio University is out of session. Athens businesses also miss Christmas season shoppers who account for 25% or more of retailers’ annual revenue.

Durind the snow emergency of ‘94, street crews used brooms to try and remove the snow off the streets. Don’t they understand the concept of shovels or are we really living in a Southern area and consider snow a novelty.

Health care in Athens is the worst I’ve ever seen:
Houses in Athens may have old nasty furniture on the porch, the roof, or the front yard.
Housing can be difficult to find unless planning to live a bit away from campus. In this case, you may have to drive to get to your destination point.

If your under 21 you better head for the Greenery.
If you've lived here forever, it sucks.
In my opinion, to many people smoke. It is bad for their health and for the health of the people around them. I hate stepping out of Morton and being attacked by a big gray cloud of smoke. I do not smoke and I should not have to be subject to it if I do not want to. I realize that smoker have the right to smoke however, not if they are affecting my clean, healthy lungs.

It is clustered in the middle of huge hills, keeping away form most summer breezes. This effects Athens summer residents, because it is very humid during the months of June, July and August. The muggy, sticky air can become unbearable.
It smells: i.e. Have you ever walked down Court Street, past the greenery to where the road and sidewalk kind of droop? What the hell is that smell?! Its entirely unidentifiable and really doens’t strike me as being 100% natural either. (but not all the time)
It sure rains a lot

Living on Court Street is like having a piece of heaven with the world at my feet and not having to walk more than 5 minutes to get anywhere. Although, at times the price to pay can be dear and the constant chatter sometimes howls of people on the street, make it more like hell.

Thus, neighbors are not very kind to others feeling. Maybe some morning I will run my vacumm at 5:30 and see how they like it.

The local Athenians don’t have much to do with Ohio University. They don’t come around here much, I think because the students drive them away. In the summertime, however, they come out of the woodwork.
The local pet store has also created quite a controversy. There are so many animals around Athens that are in shelters and need homes. The pet store is neglecting these animals from having a chance to get new homes.
